This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are growing by leaps and bounds. Class sizes are increasing but budgets are shrinking. We need adequate school materials that are age appropriate and physically appropriate for our fifth grade classroom.

Our class is an enthusiastic group of friends that has grown in numbers.

My students are intelligent, young learners, but the reality is their socioeconomic statuses and zip codes put them at an academic disadvantage as compared to their more affluent peers. They are in dire need of having access to quality materials both inside and outside of the classroom. However, providing them with the supplies necessary to learn in this context is a struggle due to strict budget cuts. Our teacher knows our potential and is constantly challenging us to grow as readers, thinkers, and individuals.

My Project

My students need access to a media player to listen to classroom based text. This will allow my students access to classroom text regardless of reading ability. My students will then be able to express in various ways what they have learned using colored pencils. This will allow the teacher time to work on challenging most students and enriching others.

With this project, my students will have the listening materials necessary to not only be successful readers but gain needed confidence to show their potential for an even brighter future.
