I am privileged to teach 25 amazing, energetic third graders! We are a diverse group of eager learners. Many of the students in my classroom struggle with maintaining their focus, being able to move and change seating can help eliminate the behavior issues that may arise. They like to stand and work, sit on the floor with clipboards, and are often unsafely tipping on their chairs. My goal is to provide them with a variety of seating options to enhance learning and focus!
My Project
Research shows that allowing students to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options greatly enhances their focus. With a fulfilled project, I would be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs. Students would be able to use stability balls, wobble stools and seat cushions to focus in our classroom. These options will allow them to become more comfortable, find a responsible working space and get the most out of our work times and classroom activities.
By giving them a choice I am helping them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices to make them more successful in the classroom.
This also helps reduce the amount of behavior problems that can happen in the classroom. By having alternative seating students have their own space to spread out and have room to work. Having alternative seating also helps with engagement. By having higher engagement students will be more successful.
The library of growth mindset books will be available as resources to inspire students to take risks... to be willing to learn from their mistakes. Many of my students are perfectionists and are hesitant to take on challenges out of fear of making mistakes. My hope is to instill an understanding that mistakes are a good thing... learning from our mistakes is what makes our brains grow stronger!
