Were you a "Blue Bird"; or were you fortunate enough to be an "Eagle"? Reading instruction has definitely evolved over the years. However, the challenge of meeting the diverse needs of individual learners still remains.
I have the privilege of teaching second grade at one of the most amazing schools in Idaho.
We are a school of choice with an emphasis in arts integration. As in all classrooms, I am challenged daily to differentiate my instruction to best meet students' individual needs. The Lexile ranges in my classroom on 25 students ranges between "beginner readers" to the "800s".
My Project
Lexia Reading Core5 is an innovative, web-based literacy software that is specifically designed to meet the Common Core and the most rigorous state standards. This software provides individualized instruction in all five core reading areas: phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
As I mentioned before, my student's reading ability range from Pre-K to 4th grade. Lexia's adaptive learning platform has proven to be an effective progress monitoring tool as well an engaging tool to provide explicit instruction to better meet individual student's needs.
I am a very passionate educator, especially when it comes to my desire that all students leave my second grade class able to "read to learn".
Unfortunately, despite my extra time and the implementation of numerous interventions, there are always a few that remain "struggling" readers. I believe this research based technology-based curriculum could be a dynamic tool capable of filling in those gaps for all of my students.
