Promoting a Love of Reading and Celebrating Students with Rocket!
My students need books to take home during their week of being Star Student. My students will take Rocket, our class mascot, home along with these books and enjoy reading and learning alongside him.
I teach at an International Baccalaureate school. My students are inquiring learners who walk into the classroom each day full of questions, excitement, and a sense of wonder. They are active learners who enjoy learning through doing and cooperating with peers. Several of the students in the class are learning English as a second language and come from a low socioeconomic background.
My students support and learn from one another.
They are open minded, caring, and empathetic learners who I know will help make the world a better place.
My Project
Throughout the year each student will get the opportunity to be Star Student. During their week as Star Student, each child will get the chance to share what is special about them and will get to be a leader/helper in class. We need books in the Rocket series to support this work.
During their time as Star Student, each child will get to take home our class mascot, Rocket, along with these books.
The students will read and enjoy these books with their families. Books will be in both English and Spanish to allow for the dual language learning that is important to us as an International Baccalaureate school. After reading these books and enjoying spending time with Rocket, students will get to write about their own adventures they had with Rocket.
Star Student shines a spotlight on each student and celebrates the individual child, promoting confidence and positive self esteem, and creating a classroom environment where each child feels important and valued. Rocket is such a great character for kindergarten students as he faces many of the same learning adventures, such as reading and writing for the first time, as my kindergartners.
