Help me give my students Premium Memberships to Prodigy. Memberships help encourage students to play the game outside of school, increasing the time they spend learning every day!
As an Instructional Strategist, many of the students I work with have learning disabilities of various levels. I work in a school district that has over 10,000 students in K-12, of which approximately 80% are on Free and Reduced Meals.
My main goal as a teacher is to ensure that every student has a chance to achieve and participate at the highest possible level.
Some of my students lack skills that will allow them to succeed without accommodations. Middle school students with lower reading levels face a difficult choice when it comes to picking a book. They have to choose between an interesting book that is written at too high of a level for them or a book that they can read that is designed to be read by a much younger student. Many of them refuse to read because they hate having to make that choice.
Many students with attention issues do want to learn but are held hostage by their minds or bodies. They are unable to focus for very long and can become distractions to themselves or others without intending to do so. Finding ways to help them stay focused can be beneficial for everyone.
My Project
Prodigy is a math platform game that we have used with great success in our math classroom. Students enjoy playing the game, which involves solving math problems in order to complete quests and collect pets and items. The game is free to use and easy to align with district and state curriculum. Students are often seen playing it outside of math class. There are extra benefits to the game that can only be made available through the purchasing of a membership. Individual memberships are $60 per year if purchased annually, and more if purchased month by month.
Many of our students have expressed interest in memberships, but have told us that their family cannot afford to purchase one for them.
By purchasing memberships in groups, the price drops dramatically, down to $12 per year per student. However, even this is still too much for some families in our district. The purpose of this project is to allow students to receive full memberships without having to pay the money individually. By purchasing a group plan, memberships can be given to students who would enjoy the extra benefits but might not be able to pay for it on their own. Students that play Prodigy outside of class have shown great growth in math, and my goal is to encourage students to grow in any way possible.
By supporting this goal, you are helping a student have an opportunity to break through economic barriers and grow even more outside of class. Your donation provides a year-long membership to a student that they can use throughout the school year to close gaps or receive extensions that cannot be provided as easily in a class of 30+ students. Please consider supporting my project to promote math in and out of the classroom!
