Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing third graders attend a large public elementary school in the South Bronx, where nearly all students come from low-income households.
My bilingual classroom is comprised of Spanish speaking students at a beginning level of English speaking proficiency.
They come from many different Spanish speaking countries including the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and Peru. They step into my classroom every day eager to learn and willing to work hard. As their teacher, I want to provide them with the tools, opportunities, and experiences that they need to be successful in life.
My Project
The more I teach, the more I see that students who behave and do their work are not being recognize enough. When a child misbehaves he gets all the attention, but students who are quiet and always on task get little or no recognition at all. We are too busy trying to stop the misbehavior, but I decided that it was not going to happen in my class.
In my class I want to encourage students to do excellent.
One of the best ways that I found students work best is by rewarding every student who behaves and does the work. Whenever I reward my students they are more willing to excel in the class. I constantly need to refill my reward box because more student are trying their best. I am sure that they will be really excited to see all these incentives coming to our classroom.
