Our school CARES and so should you! The students in my class are sweet-natured children, who live in poverty. The projects where they live are just down the hill.
A tall apartment building and numerous two family small homes, which are not taken care of at all.
Police sirens and gunshots are a natural occurrence. Children rarely go outside to play as everyone is nervous about drive by shootings. Most of these children have known or are related to someone who has been shot.
Our school sits on top of a hill. It is a small school with only 400+ students. The building was built in 1957 and over the years most of the cities schools have been renovated or torn down and rebuilt.
However, our little school on the hill was only ADA upgraded. It needs work to say the least. The desks are old, a variety of sizes and rickety and the children use mixed matched chairs that don't fit the desks or their size. The copy machines break down numerous times a day, which inhibits getting my work done. However, I do have wonderful students, who I deeply care for.
My Project
My students will be able to use the Cricut machine to help them with their projects in reading, science, social studies, math and illustrate their writing. As part of our writing program we use illustrations that represent the words to bring the text to life. The other subjects will also benefit with this machine as the students will be able to design their own projects. There are numerous ideas the students will be able to brainstorm in using the Cricut. There are many aspects into creating while using the machine, they will learn about proportion and space, as well as actual design with a variety of materials.
I am very excited to add the Circuit Explore Air 2 machine to my classroom.
Decorating our classroom would be another benefit. The students would be able to cooperate and negotiate as a group what types of educational decorations they would like around our classroom. The feelings the student gets when they see their own work is truly inspiring.
