I am one of the new K-5 STEAM teachers in my district. Many of our students have grown to love STEM due to our new class and teachers integrating it into their own classrooms. STEAM is a topic that I like to integrate into my classroom as much as possible because it is an area leading the future. The students at all of our elementaries show similar strengths and many differences. It is almost like a completely different world at each school. This means that some students are more affluent and have more opportunities to be exposed to different learning experiences than other students. I want to be able to bring all of those learning experiences to my classroom so every student has the same opportunities to learn.
Students can and will learn so long as they are given the opportunities to do so!
I want to be the teacher to give all of my students that opportunity to learn because they truly do want to learn.
My Project
I hope to get my students a wood burning kit because it is a new piece of technology that we can add into our STEAM program. It is something that have never used before, but it is a way to integrate technology into our art program. We no longer offer art in our school, but it is part of steam class. We are always looking for ways to integrate tech with our art. I believe this will benefit my students because they will have the opportunity to be creative while using a tool that is completely new to them. I want them to experience creating a work of art through wood and being able to take it home to their parents. This is an opportunity to get students involved in wood work, which has not had much of a major focus in the recent years.
