As an intervention specialist, it is my responsibility to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum. While I travel with my students in an inclusive setting, they also join me in my room for skills practice and reteaching. Their learning would be maximized with technology tools.
My students have various backgrounds, strengths, weaknesses, and needs.
They have a great sense of humor and are active in many after school activities. One thing they have in common is that they are middle school students who need their confidence boosted academically. They are hard workers but often need to learn in a different way than they are presented with in the inclusion classroom. This often includes audio, visual, and kinesthetic learning. It also requires learning in chunks and reteaching.
My school is located in a rural setting. Although students were provided with Chromebooks through a grant this year, they are unable to access online features at home due to unavailability of internet access. Many students haven't had the opportunity to learn how to use technology as a tool in their learning.
My Project
With a projector, my students will be able to receive audio-visual reteaching in my classroom. The projector will enhance learning opportunities while engaging them in meaningful instruction. In addition, the projector will give us the ability to play interactive games with a kinesthetic component for learning.
In addition to academic learning, students will also be able to learn about how to use technology as a tool, enhancing their 21st Century skills to be utilized for the rest of their academic careers and into the future.
This project will enhance the learning experiences of students who need that extra assistance in achieving success in their academic careers.
Middle school is a critical time in a child's life where they are really evaluating themselves compared to other peers. If my students can gain confidence in their academic abilities, it will not only help them to learn and understand more, but it will give them the confidence to keep moving forward in their education.
