This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Please help my inquisitive students with autism learn in a twenty-first century interactive classroom. My classroom has a SMARTboard, but no projector. The projector will allow my students to be able to see their lesson but also be able to interact with the lesson.
Imagine being able to create interactive lessons for students across the spectrum.
I teach students with Autism in a low income and high needs area, where they do not always have the resources to help them reach their potential. A projector would allow us to use our SMART board. The use of the SMART board would allow for many different modalities of instruction, interaction and communication.
In general, my students are very strong visual learners and are also very easily distracted. Technology is the one tool that my students tend to gravitate towards. Some of my students are also non-verbal and rely on visual supports to communicate, interact and participate.
A projector will help enhance their learning by allowing me to make their lessons more interactive. It will also enable students to point to words and pictures so they can show their understanding and expand their communication.
My Project
A projector will be an invaluable resource for my current students and those to come. My students enjoy learning about the world around them but do not have the opportunity to see it. A projector will allow them and myself to explore the world around us in an interactive way. We recently read the book A ÂFamily Under the Bridge, which took place in Paris. The use of a projector will allow me to show them maps, videos and more visuals to enhance my lessons.
As a teacher it is my role to find ways for the students to realize their individual potential. The environment the child comes from, the lack of resources the school may have or possible poor school management do not directly affect a students learning or students learning ability -teachers who are committed and willing to go the extra mile can change lives.
To be able to use the SMART Board in my classroom would open up a whole new range of ways for me to interact, communicate and instruct my students.
The ability to interact and communicate with one tool that the teacher and the students can touch and click with ease, is invaluable.
