Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dual Language grade 5 is a loving little family of learners that have been together since Pre-K. They have all mastered the art of supporting each other’s needs and goals both socially and academically. This post pandemic year has tethered them tightly together in persevering through the social emotional needs of their classmates and their school community. Together they have aspired to have their voice heard, try new experiences, and not give up despite the challenges of transition from remote learning to in person learning.
In our classroom we are building a community of problem solving advocates with the goal of developing a sturdy growth mindset.
These unique young people have shown courage, resilience and flexibility as they navigate through all of the grade five expectations with excitement to find out what they can do. They enjoy singing, dancing, art and have a genuine love of learning.
My Project
Our students are in need of having their voices heard. With these microphones we can enhance student voice in our school community making students the leaders of events that create a positive difference. These events are centered around helping students become decision makers that will engage the needs of the school community. We currently have student led morning news through a virtual platform, student government and music events that promote student voice. During these events it is challenging to hear due to the nature of the acoustics in the auditorium and the technology used. With these microphones it can help project voices of the students that are speaking so that their voices can be heard clearly. This can aid in expanding events that will promote student led opportunities such as debates and professional development for other students.
By donating to our project you will be creating opportunities for students to lead book talks, present important topics that concern racial justice and equality, debate about climate change and what can be done to solve it and promote stories of perseverance in school and at home.
These microphones are a symbol of what it means to inspire voice in our school. It will help students understand the importance of sharing their thoughts and ideas. It will help build a community of learners and doers.
