My students need an LCD Projector.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
NEWSFLASH! The old days of school, where the teacher stands at the board and lectures students, are GONE! Students these days are submerged in a hyperstimulating environment that constantly has them guessing and reacting to new challenges.
The job market that my students are going to enter following their academic careers is also multifaceted and fast paced.
In order to ensure that they are prepared with the skills to succeed in college, and eventually the work force, I need to be able to engage my students in many ways, breaking the restraints that a 4 inch piece of chalk places on a teacher without 21st century technology. In order to be successful, college is a must for my students. Unfortunately, many of the expectations that exist in the community in which they live do not support that ever occurring, which highlights the necessity of an engaging, rigorous, and welcoming classroom where all students feel supported and all students learn! As a school, we work alongside our parents to support our students and show them that we expect them to college and we expect them to succeed. Any additional resources we receive make this a task our students can more easily accomplish.
With an LCD projector, the students in my classroom will be able to engage with the material through a number of different media (games, simulations, notes). I look forward to showing videos about how geometry relates to the physical structures they see in their everyday lives and follow it up with animated examples that bring math to life, rather than make simply words on a page! Most importantly, having an LCD projector will allow me to plan lessons, during which I am set free from the chalk board to roam the room and offer support to all students, and ensure they are mastering the fundamental skills necessary in middle school to get them to and through college.
For my students, going to college has the opportunity to not only change their life paths, but the path of their entire family.
Ensuring they receive a rigorous and engaging education from as early as possible increases the likelihood they will enjoy academics and strive to pursue their goals relentlessly, despite the challenges they may face outside of school.
