The majority of our culturally and economically diverse students pass through the music department during their three years here. These students participate in band, chorus, orchestra, or general music. Many students have taken part in more than one of these courses to truly get the most out of their musical experience.
My students are eager to learn in a variety of ways and tend do their best when actively participating in the lessons.
They like hearing and seeing examples of music we talk about, and ways it applies to every day life. I find that due to lack of resources,I struggle to keep my class interested and motivated to do their best and get the most out of their musical experiences.
My Project
Music is a unique subject where students have the opportunity to function as a team, instead of as individuals. While each student is responsible for their specific part, the final product is how the group combines to create music together.
A document camera and projector would allow students to see how their part fits in the big picture of the song, as well as work on understanding and applying musical concepts.
By showing the score of the music, or individual parts, students will be able to learn more concepts as a class, instead of on their own.
With the advancement of technology, there are so many great resources available online. A projector will bring these resources to my students. They will be able to watch world class performing groups, get tips from professional musicians on how to play their instrument, see the process of creating music, and overall have more opportunities to simply enjoy the subject!
