Projecting Science at the Speed of Light!

My students need a LCD projector.

We are racing towards brighter futures in my Physical Science classroom by holding to the highest standards! I teach primarily 9th grade students in a high-needs inner city neighborhood high school. Students here often have a low opinion of the school since it is not a charter school, and some come into the classroom discouraged by the school name even before they begin!

However, in my class, we hold to the highest expectations of any high school science class. Unfortunately, my students are continually struggling to internalize the concepts of science, simply because they are often difficult. This can quickly discourage the students!

I believe this obstacle is not too difficult to overcome. By using direct instruction, demonstrations, labs, group activities, reading, writing, mathematics problems, and every other which way there is to learn, I try to reach every type of student and every type of learner. Visual aids and technology are two effective modes of teaching that I would like to incorporate into my classroom on a daily basis through the use of an LCD projector. With an LCD projector, I would be able to supplement for demonstrations that I do not have the resources for (which science requires many!), for labs that are too intricate to implement for their return, and for simple animations or short video clips that would both engage students and effectively communicate hard-to-grasp concepts. Videos, animations, and PowerPoint presentations can be powerful tools in a science classroom that can otherwise seem confusing and impossible for some students!

You can help motivate my students to a deeper level of understanding of nature. Videos, animations, and PowerPoint presentations can be powerful tools in a science classroom that can otherwise seem confusing and impossible for some students! Be a part of our high-expectations science classroom, by projecting science at the speed of light!
