"Do you see what I see?" So often students are asked to sit and listen to instruction without any visual aides. My project will allow my entire class to be able to gain a better understanding of the concepts presented through visuals.
We are a Kindergarten class at a growing charter school in California.
Our students come from a diverse population and have a number of challenges facing them in their daily lives. One of my students has a visual impairment and at times needs extra support which is often difficult to provide given our class size. Many students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch, this after having to walk a mile to school or take public transportation. They are the most appreciative bunch of kiddos who would love your support!
My Project
The ELMO projector would enable me to reach all of my students with visual assistance in my lessons. Unfortunately our aide time has been cut dramatically and I can no longer have small group instruction where students can easily see the manipulatives, pictures, or other visual aides. With the ELMO, I will be able to project images on the white board large enough to be seen by my entire class at one time. I already have a projector in my classroom but I need this visual presenter to enhance the students' experience. I will use the ELMO regularly because I already have all of the necessary tools within my classroom to do so.
Classroom use of the Elmo include: read-alouds; math lessons such as counting objects, money identification, and sorting; modeling correct letter and number formation; directions and examples for workbook pages; showcasing student work; examining science specimens; projecting non-reproducible items like artifacts, food, and puzzles.
My desire to use an ELMO in my daily teaching is strong.
My students are not getting the most out of my lessons because they can't always see what is important, be it manipulatives, words, or pictures. In Kindergarten, it is imperative that these young students gain a solid foundation of skills on which to build and move forward. An ELMO will enable me to provide visual aides and help keep my students focused and engaged, as well as promote their understanding. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
