I teach Math to a great group of 5th graders. We have students from many different backgrounds and cultures. We have students working on many different levels, ranging from 3rd to 12th grade. We are a Title I school with a large number of students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. I want to give this wonderful group of kids every chance to show growth this year. Our students as a group enjoy math, which is a rare thing. I want to provide them with experiences that foster that love of math.
Keeping students interested in Math can be a challenge, one very effective method for my class has been using multiple projectors to provide SMART Board interaction and Document Camera instruction at the same time. Students can interact with lessons on the smart board, and see my notes, examples, and modeling at the same time. The projector will be used along with a Document camera and laptop to project my modeling of problems, give notes, show student work, and model manipulatives. While allowing Students to interact with the smart board at the same time.
This Combines interactive lessons with traditional sound instruction in a unique way.
Students are able to see the concrete and abstract examples of problems at the same time in an interesting, involved, and focused way. This helps students by showing the problem at the level they are on, Students ready for the abstract get it, and those who still need the concrete see how it connects to the abstract.
