"I can't see!!"
"...is in my way!"
"I didn't get to see it!"
We all have been there before; trying to get a look at something with a group of people around. I would like to give my students the best view of the lesson without them having to compete with their classmates for it.
The majority of my first grade students are the children of military men and women.
They attend a public school on a base in South Carolina that is considered high poverty. Many of my students have one parent deployed, leaving one parent at home with the family. Students at our school have many more stresses than the average student does. Even with all this at home, my first graders are excited about everything they do and come to school ready to learn. Our school district is in the process of making widespread financial cut backs, making it impossible to get additional technology purchased for our classrooms. With your help I can get additional technology to enhance my students' learning.
My Project
The ELMO document camera would allow me to make my lessons more in depth and meaningful for my students. For example, with this piece of technology I would be able to show my students the parts of a real plant as it is projected onto the class Smart Board. All students, not just the tallest or ones sitting in the front, would have an unobstructed view of cooking activities, math activities and so much more. It will make learning exciting and extremely accessible to all students, not only this school year but in ones to come.
An ELMO document camera would allow every student to feel like they were at the center of the lesson.
It would bring activities to the "big screen," making content more meaningful and memorable. Student work will be easy to share and students will take more pride in their work. Having a document camera will open the world up to my students and provide so many opportunities for me to enrich the lessons I teach.
