As a resource teacher at a Charter School, I have the pleasure of working with 7th through 12th graders. Our school is 100% free or reduced breakfast and lunch and many students come to us at below grade level.
Our goal is to bring all students to grade level to succeed in their years of education.
They all have potential, but we need enough dedication and resources to make this happen. I want the students to learn in a friendly environment that pushes them to be the best they can be, and also feel the joy of learning.
My Project
Within the Special Education program, this is the first year that they created my role as a resource teacher who teaches full 90 minute lessons to the students, and not just providing pull-out services. I use what previously has been an office as my classroom, which means there's a lack of teaching resources.
This project is to provide my room with a projector so that my students will be able to engage in learning through technology, as students in the 21st century should.
Currently, I use my laptop if I want to show them any videos or online sources. However, I would love for a more interactive opportunity to dive into their learning.
For these students who live in a time where technology is so heavily utilized, I want to make sure that they are prepared for their higher levels of education and beyond by exposing and using as much technology as possible!
As for the pencil sharpener, I purchased one out of pocket earlier in the year. However, because it was a cheaper brand and how much use it gets, it broke down within a month! The pencil sharpener I’m requesting is a highly recommended one that hopefully will last much longer.
