My Students

These learners are students at an alternative high school, meaning that they are doing their best and working their hardest to earn their high school diploma. Nearly all of them have faced a number of hardships, be it the pandemic, family emergencies, or physical and mental health needs that caused them to fall behind. These students need a warm, welcoming, and understanding environment to help them meet their academic and personal goals of graduation.

My Project

This projector will allow students to interact with digital materials on the whiteboard, and make the classroom easier to move around in without disrupting visuals. Annotating complex texts is an important skill to have and being able to do so in a way so that the whole class can see it would greatly help my students improve their literacy skills.

Further, I currently have a long-throw projector in my class which means as I go about providing one on one instruction to my students I frequently disrupt the visual on the projected screen as I move about the class.

I use visuals to (1) emphasize instructions for an activity or (2) to provide content for said activity. Disrupting this visual can confuse students and disrupt their flow of work.

Having a projector that allows me to use the whiteboard to mark up slides and documents will provide a more equitable space when it comes to filling out things like graphic organizers and other handouts. I can model expectations without having to retreat to my document camera or without having to try to fill things in via Word document or Adobe Acrobat.
