This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in an urban area. The school had an estimated enrollment of about 450 students for the 2018-2019 school year in grades TK-5. We house a state pre-K program. About 97.7% of the students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, and 79.4% are English language learners. The school is a dual language school so instruction is presented in both English and Spanish.

The students at our school are wonderful children who need a little extra support to reach their goals.

Our school is located in an economically depressed area, and our school district has recently gone through a battery of budget cuts that have left us struggling to meet students' needs. We are on a mission to provide an intellectually stimulating, culturally prosperous, and socially emotionally supportive environment for every child through collaboration and reflection between the school, parents, and community.

My Project

Our school is located in an economically depressed area, and our school district has recently gone through a battery of budget cuts that have left us struggling to meet students' needs. We are on a mission to provide an intellectually stimulating, culturally prosperous, and socially emotionally supportive environment for every child through collaboration and reflection between the school, parents, and community.

Our students need a projector in every classroom so that they can see shared reading texts clearly.

Currently, we do not have a good, reliable device for projecting text. That makes it hard to see the text and discuss it together. These projectors will be used in 5th grade classrooms to make sure all students can clearly see the text that is being discussed. This will greatly help with whole-class participation in annotation and answering text-dependent questions. Being able to practice this type of thinking about literature will help our students build up their own skills for independent work.
