My Students

My students have a wide range of disabilities. They also have multiple disabilities including severe intellectual disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, autism spectrum disorder, speech and language impairments, and/or visual impairments. Having students with special needs means that often special equipment is required to make not only the student's safety in the classroom possible, but also to maximize their learning.

My number one goal as a teacher for students with special needs is to improve their quality of life.

This means making sure that they have access to materials that ensure a positive and successful learning environment based on their individual needs.

My Project

I have requested materials including an Apple TV to connect/project learning and communication apps to our classroom SMART Board. This will make all apps more accessible for the various special needs of my students.

Intentional communication and the ability to make choices is crucial to the independence and quality of life for ALL of my students, who do not have these abilities naturally.

The Apple TV and adapter will allow us to turn our SMART Board into a larger version of the tablets that students use and love. This will allow all students to access the applications that they use for communication as well as the applications used for learning new and maintaining skills.
