Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a team of motivated middle school leaders, and even though their ages range from 10-14 years old, you would never know by the way they have embraced their leadership. When I took over as student leadership moderator, I began with students who were a bit unconvinced that their role could make a difference. Just one year later, I have watched them become powerful and involved school citizens ready to inspire change. Their most pressing concern has been the influence that our students’ rough backgrounds have on school culture.
My student leaders have realized that in order to break the negative cycles seen in so many of our students’ families, we must create opportunities to change their minds through involvement.
Thus, over the past year, they have been working tirelessly to raise money for events that help our students and their families feel more connected to our school. Their goal is to help students and families see that school can be a powerful and life-changing place, where their current present does not have to define their future.
My Project
My student leaders need an inflatable projector screen and digital projector to project family movies and presentations that highlight our school community. This would attract our students’ families to visit the campus and become more aware of the assistance and resources that the school offers, especially through our parent center.
Having an outdoor projector system can help us run events where students and families can come together in a healthy way.
By supporting parents' and families' needs, we can create a better opportunity for our students to see their world in a whole new light and change the direction of their future.
