I am a first year teacher at a low income school in Brooklyn, NY. I have a class of 18 third grade students and I am trying to make learning varied and interesting for all of them on a daily basis.
I have an overhead projector in my class and I have found a way to use it with math problems. I can put counters on the projection surface and they are displayed as shadows on the board.
I would like to be able to use my projector more in class, especially since it allows for more variety than writing on the board or on chart paper. Unfortunately, I don't have any transparency paper to use on my overhead.
There is so much I would be able to do with the projector if I had transparency paper! I can print or copy pictures, words, and math problems onto the transparencies from a computer or copy machine! This would be great for shared reading. I would be able to copy the pages on the transparency that I am reading aloud to my students and have them follow along by reading the projection. You can also use a marker on transparencies and underline important things, make corrections to a piece of writing, and add notes in the margins. My students love it when I turn the lights down and we use the overhead projector. It's different and very engaging for everyone and I would love to use this resource instead of having the projector collect dust in my classroom. Transparencies would help my class get much more use of our projector!
