My Students

Each project that I am registering for tonight is designed to benefit all of our special education kiddos. Chances are, general education students will benefit as well - and that is icing on the cake.

At FES, we estimate a little less than one-third of our student population falling into the special education category, whether be it a medical 504 or an IEP for Intellectual Disability.

Additionally, our kiddos generally, and often, face some pretty tough circumstances, and yet they continue to be a source of inspiration to our staff.

We've found, across America, that in our third year of teaching during a global pandemic, the admirable resiliency of our youth is being tested to an extreme. For this, and for a million other reasons, I want to give our kiddos everything in my power to make their school year, lives, and experiences as glorious, easy, and memorable as can be.

My Project

It is important to share that all of these are on behalf of my team - to build everyone's treasure chest. Across our special education team, we have 6 full-time teachers which mean at least 6 treasure chests within just our department.

The resiliency of our youth is being terribly tested, and it shows in their general daily struggle to maintain calm bodies, be available for learning, and meet grade-level expectations.

Incentive charts are far and frequent, now more than ever, and these items are to help build that! When running low, kids seem to love working for treasures!

At the school years beginning, the kiddos on my caseload (3rd and 5th grades) seemed to be struggling the most, from being back in school full day to being present for their academic lessons to maintaining a level of consistency from the start of the day to the end of the day. What I have found is, when you tap into the interests of your students and turn those interests into possible rewards, those students then receive the little bit of extrinsic push they need to reach total self-management for each school day. With this order/project, I hope to continue that for my students, but also to extend such a simple and incredible system to my co-workers. We currently have too many students struggling to stay in the classroom, follow expectations, and be available for their education. Building their strength and abilities via incentive charts and treasure chests is only a fraction of what I can do to help ease their struggles. Again, this project will allow me to share my successful strategies with my team (my students will benefit also).
