Project Silent Beat: Learning Rhythms with an Electronic Drum Set

My Students

A lot has changed in a year. One of my favorite changes has to be seeing my third grade students eating breakfast in the hall right outside my room. It has been a great way to start my mornings. Now we are in a new room; a bigger room. In fact, many of my students helped me move instruments into our new space. My students are always so helpful and are so excited to be in the new music room.

Last year was tough while teaching music on a cart, but this year, I plan to make it spectacular.

We are back in the music room, and I want to make an awesome space for my students to learn music.

I want my students to have the best opportunity that I can provide them. 75 percent of the student population in our school require free or reduced-price lunch. That's just a fact, but that's why so many of my fellow teachers and I strive to make school a safe and engaging place for students to learn and grow. Every child deserves to feel welcomed, and that's just what I plan to do.

My Project

I want to get an electronic drum set for my students. I have times where students can go to different stations where they can play keyboards, listen to records, read books with puppets, or play music apps on my iPads. It has taken several years to create this learning environment. All of my students love to play the drums during our music making time. Whether they are playing on djembes, hand drums, or buckets; they never lose interest in playing.

This electronic drum set would be a great way for my students to continue learning while they are at stations.

There are many great apps that can be utilized to teach self paced lessons for the drum set. With the electronic drum set, a student can play with minimal classroom interruption. Your help will allow me to continue to grow my school's music program and provide new and engaging ways to learn for my students.
