My Project
Our middle school, serving a diverse student body of over 800 students, including many multilingual and newcomer learners, is committed to fostering a welcoming, healing-centered, and culturally responsive environment. To achieve this goal, we are establishing an on-site SEL wing. However, the lack of furnishings and resources currently hinders our ability to create these inviting spaces.
With your support, we can transform our NEW classroom into a hub for social-emotional learning.
By providing comfortable seating, calming decor, and essential bilingual wellness supplies, we can create environments that promote student well-being and academic success.
These resources will directly benefit our students by:
1. Expanding SEL group sessions: Our counseling team has successfully increased the number of SEL group sessions from 18 to 251 in the 2023-24 school year, and these new resources will further enhance their effectiveness. This 2024-25 school year, our goal is to surpass last year's outcome.
2. Supporting student-led programming: The comfortable and welcoming space will facilitate SEL guided by student interests and curiosities, providing students with opportunities to connect, support, and learn from one another with the advisement of a counselor.
3. Promoting mental health awareness: The bilingual wellness supplies will help to destigmatize mental health issues and provide students with resources to manage their emotional well-being in their native language.
This initial investment is a critical step in building a comprehensive SEL program that will benefit our students for years to come. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, we can help our students develop the social-emotional skills they need to succeed academically and personally.
