Students in our school have a hard time affording breakfast and lunch. Students in our school have a hard time affording the clothes they wear to school.
They have so much on their minds that not having a pencil or notebook is the least of their worries.
To have supplies for class is something that they just aren't concerned with; they are too concerned for their survival.
Students in my class get really into the projects and activities we do in class, but need supplies to be able to perform to the best of their abilities.
My Project
These materials and supplies will help my students to continue to do good work in my classroom. They will be able to participate in activities like making posters and doing math puzzles to increase their number sense.
Students in my classes will become better problem solvers because of the opportunities these supplies will afford.
Students in my class will be more engaged in class and therefore will do better on alternative assessments and learn more math. They will be able to use these supplies to really stay interested in math.
We do many logic puzzles, like ken-ken, and sudoku that help them think more logically about things and become better problem solvers in math class and therefore better problem solvers in life.
The supplies that are listed will help the classroom run smoothly. The colored paper and Sharpies with the large post it paper we already have will help us to make posters. The colored paper will also help me to create engaging activities for the students. If it's on colored paper, the students respond to it in a much greater way.
The calculators will help students check their work and help students that truly need a calculator in their work. The glue and tape will be utilized in activities that are of a sorting nature. We cut out different examples of different concepts and categories, and then match them up and glue the pieces down to create reusable notes sheets. The students can use these when they are doing homework, or during class time before they ask the teacher for help.
