Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How often do you watch videos or listen to music on your computer? How often do you look something up when you don't know the answer? My students deserve the same ability to access instantaneous information as we have.
The 40 students in my fourth grade math and science classes live in North Carolina, and they are all severely below grade level.
They are excited to learn and interested in accessing material, but our school does not have the resources to provide them with all the hands-on experiences and video footage that would truly invest them in the material we are learning.
My Project
Having a projector in our classroom would enable my students to watch NASA footage, DiscoveryEd demonstrations, and YouTube clips without having to all huddle around a single computer monitor. Not only would we be able to all see the material from our desks, my students would be able to simultaneously take notes on the material being covered. As it stands now, they move from their desks to the floor in front of a single monitor and back to their desks before they can take notes.
In this transition from desk to floor to desk, we lose valuable learning time and some of the information gleaned from the video is lost to the wind. By being able to take down information while watching the video, my students will be better equipped to engage in rigorous discussions and assessments.
Please help my students project their learning throughout this year.
By engaging with this technology, my students will have the opportunity to not only further their learning this year, but also better understand the resources at their disposal for all future endeavors.
