Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Built mostly of low income status students of color with the majority either coming directly from a different country or their parents being newcomers. Emotional and mental trauma often times surround the upbringing of our students which makes for learning to be difficult at times.
As Oprah once said, "Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom." Our students need to experience the world so that they can be free of their traumatic past and step into a successful future.
It's hard to provide that when there are cuts being made left and right in the public education system. Faded paintings in the school yard and lack of equipment only provide images of an erasing community of something that once was.
There is nothin we as a community should want more than the success of our students who could lead the world to a better future, not just for themselves but for everyone living in it.
My Project
Our Pre-K students need a space of their own where they can use the amazing new items to build motor skills, community, sharing, and responsibilities of putting away their own toys.
The Pre-K students don't have a specific area where they can play during recess and it makes it hard for them to stay engaged when they only have a play structure to play with.
With the new sand and water structures, we can place them in a pre-designated area where only the pre-k students can go inside and play while still being in the schoolyard.
I think students will be excited to have a special space just for them to enjoy and learn how the movement of water and sand have different effects depending on their surrounding environments. The large building blocks will let their creativity reign supreme by building endless amounts of structures.
