I have been teaching for over 21 years now, and have loved every minute of it. I have even had the privilege of teaching the children of former students. I receive positive reinforcement through the success stories of my students as they continue their life journeys. I had a difficult childhood and had a tough road to what I consider success. I have taught, and still teach, many young people who have it far tougher than I did. I find that in many cases that my class is the only positive thing those students have to look forward to, and the only source of moral support.
I will never forget my advanced students on the last day of school 2 years ago.
I have been bald for years now. When I walked into class, they were all wearing bald wigs. To top that, I heard a noise and found a blow dryer running that had been hand-signed by all of them.
Another past student gave me a Chuck Norris desk calendar. Each day had a different Chuck Norris joke. He had gone on every page and replaced his name with Mr. Haynie.
There are too many examples to list.
My Project
We are a new school and I am teaching a new curriculum. Because of this, there is a limited amount of tools and materials available, so many students are having to wait until these resources become available in order to proceed with their labs. These new drill kits and building cables will help in getting more students actively involved in hands-on activities at the same time.
Being a career and technology class, the greatest emphasis is on students being able to perform hands-on tasks which gives them the skills that potential employers are in the market for.
