Mrs. Stanberry from Saint Louis MO is requesting musical instruments through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need good quality percussion instruments they can actually tap on as they learn to love music. They are active and want to learn but most of all they long to let out their energy!

My students are from North St.Louis County very near the area of the Ferguson unrest of 4 years ago. Our area at times is still affected but our students seem, in my opinion, to handle it well at school. I love that they deal with tough home situations and smile each day. Some use music and forget about their anger and for a few minutes they are taken to another place.
I believe rhythm instruments can help to relieve stress and promote cooperation with learning and fun.
My students need all of those particular elements to thrive in order to be successful in all other areas. For some, school may be all they have. For others, it may be all the "alone" time they get-as taking care of siblings before and after school may be their sole responsibility when their parents are working.
My students are bright and hard-working, although some struggle in Math and ELA. I want to be a part of their success .I am a 30 year veteran teacher and have been teaching music at this same school for 22 years. Before I retire here I want to make sure they have good percussion instruments to play!
My students will be able to visually show me their learning so I can assess them better leading to more accountability in assessments. We have so much talent.
Students will be more engaged in their learning by using their percussion instruments in daily classes and performances alike.
The instruments will be a wonderful compliment to the small rhythm classroom instruments we already have. They would be so very grateful.
Our district curriculum often calls for the students beat out a line of rhythm, which I normally have them do with sticks or their hands, however, I would be honored to have them be able to do it on a drum of some sort.
I often see other schools with large drums and they have mentioned trying this program. I am giving it a shot for my students and their future!
