Do you remember sitting in a class, listening to your teacher drone on and on and on? He or she was probably trying his/her best to explain things, but lost you in long and involved explanations. I don't want that to be the story for my students; I want to address their learning styles effectively.
My students are all urban middle school students.
They are like students everywhere: some want to be there and are very successful students; others would much rather be somewhere else and struggle with their learning; many are somewhere in the middle -- just trying to get along and do what's right. Some are well off; most are middle-class or below. All of them, no matter where they fall in the spectrum of students, are great kids with unique stories to tell and talents to develop and share. All of them deserve to have their unique learning needs addressed.
My Project
Having a projector in my classroom will totally transform the classroom. We'll no longer be in the corner of the third floor of an old building. A projector will take us "out and about" on a tour of the world, as offered by the Internet. Sights, available to us previously only in print form, can come to life, projected before our eyes on a big screen. Not only will we have sights, we'll have sounds!
Having a projector in my classroom will enhance the teaching I'm able to do. As a writing teacher, I model my thinking in all stages of the writing process. To be able to project the writing process will allow powerful modeling for the students. A projector will enable me to better address my students' various learning styles, allowing them to read instructions in addition to listening to instructions.
Having a projector in my classroom will enhance the final products I ask the students to produce. They love using technology for projects, and a projector will enhance their presentations.
Putting technology in the hands of children enhances their learning by getting the excited and engaged in their learning.
A projector will help them share what they've learned and put together in unique and fun ways. They'll be able to show their movies and demonstrate their websites -- powerful demonstrations of learning. Please me me reach and motivate them all!
