Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 5th grade self-contained all subjects teacher. This is my 3rd year teaching and what I love about my students is their energy to learn. When my students get that "Aha" moment everything falls into place for me. As challenging as teaching may be, I am here for the students. I want to be able to provide them with the necessary tools they need to succeed. Some students are not able to get the school supplies needed so I like to be able to have extras on hand. Also, many have not stepped into a public library which is why I would like to be able to bring a little bit of the literature world into my classroom to give them that exposure.
My Project
With these materials, I am hoping to provide students with an opportunity they may not already have. I want to have a place for students to go to and read if they are done with an assignment. I also want them to feel free to choose one of the books to read during their independent reading time. Be able to help them grow their vocabulary with these high-interest books is also a goal of mine. I feel as their teacher it is my duty to expose them to as much as I possibly can in hopes they will continue to have grow and love what literature has to offer them.
