My Students

I work in a rural school. I am originally from Chicago and while it was a transition to a small-town school, I have grown to love this place! It’s the kind of school where a student heard I had never had fresh milk so he brought some to me on my birthday along with cake. It’s the kind of place where students ask teachers to wear their football jerseys. My kids are awesome. They make me think in new ways, and they stay in my life. I hear from them after they graduate, and they come back to help out at the school. It’s a truly wonderful community of really nice kids.

My Project

I saw a project in the Bronx for a book club, and I became inspired. We are starting this book club with A Wrinkle in Time, but I want to get books ready for next month. Our librarian recommended this novel as good next novel. It is modern and a series, and the students are sure to enjoy it.

My hope is that we will have challenges and other events to help students enjoy reading and books in a new and contemporary way that they perhaps are not able to do in the classroom.
