This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager to learn. They live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. Some of my students live with grandparents or other family members, and some live in shelters. Our school is Title I with 100%, of our students receiving free lunch. Our students have a lot of potential that needs to be nurtured to be realized. We encourage our students that daily attendance is necessary to keep up with the instruction. Our teachers work hard to make sure that each child receives what they need in a timely manner in order to succeed.
My Project
What is more fun and entertaining than LEGOs? I say nothing! They are every child's dream. Our classroom needs LEGOs in order to build things that we are learning about. In kindergarten, we learn about transportation. The LEGO set with the Math Train and tractors/machines will accomplish the task. The students can explore the different types of machines and learn about what they do to help our farming and industrial communities. The students can practice their math skills with the Math Train. Learning our numbers is a major skill for this age group. The community set will help students learn about their community. It will invoke prior knowledge of their own community.
Students will embrace learning through the use of LEGOs.
LEGOs are one of their favorite things to play with. The use of LEGOs will allow the students to learn Social Studies and have fun at the same time. It will help build their fine motor skills too which is critical for handwriting.
