Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Pilot to Co-Pilot, are we ready for navigation?" could be the first thing kids say after learning about flight with our Project Lead The Way and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum when they launch this great GoPro camera mounted on a Drone at our very own school!
Our school is a Title 1 school in California and, with the recent budget cuts of money for schools in California, it is imperative for companies and individuals like yourself to assist with student learning in public schools.
Our students get up every morning and come to school ready to learn. They enjoy the learning process and are eager to get into the classroom each morning with a smile on their face and learn new things each and every day. Our school is piloting the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program this year and I am one of the lucky teachers to have it be in my classroom! This allows me to let students get hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and get the basic skills and education they need to be successful in the work field they chose to go into when they graduate. My students are super excited about the opportunity to learn all about flight and when this project gets funded, I know they will jump for joy when I bring out the Drone!
My Project
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is all about hands-on training for future engineers, scientists and mathematicians. My particular unit for the PLTW curriculum is flight. Allowing students to learn all about flight will lead them into the higher level thinking that is so desperately needed for engineers in the work field in the world today. For this project I am requesting one DJI CP.PT.000027 Phantom FC40 Quadcopter with Wi-Fi FPV Video Camera, one GoPro Hero3 camera/video recorder, three SanDisk Memory Cards, and two DJI Phantom Prop Guards (Set of 4).
Having these Drone materials and a GoPro camera will allow my students to see what flight is all about from the ground and the air. Getting my students these hands-on materials will teach them the thrust, weight, lift and drag of an aircraft, and in this case, the drone. Using these memory cards to record what each group of students was able to do with their turn on the drone will allow for a deeper understanding of the four forces on an aircraft. Having different sets of data will allow us to compare and contrast what worked best and what didn't for each flight launch. With all of these great materials, students will be eager to come to school.
Funding for this project will be improving our classroom because students will not only learn about four forces on an aircraft in the classroom, but they will also be able to be involved in their own learning with hands-on projects.
These projects they can complete as a group will give them the hands-on training and experiences they need to be successful future engineers. My students will love coming to school each day and will not realize they are learning Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
