Help me give my students valuable instruction time back by learning how to tune their own instruments using clip tuners, violin shoulder pads and cello end-pin stops.
My students are creative, inquisitive, and excited about learning music. They make me smile every single day with their energy and charisma, often despite difficult outside circumstances. They are kind and supportive of one another as they work together to learn to play music together. Just the other day one of my fourth grade orchestra groups spent most of the class figuring out what they could do to sound better as a group - it was magical! "Teamwork makes the dream work" became their adopted class moto.
My Project
These items are a basic necessity for a music classroom where students are learning how to play orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) and ukulele.
Getting tuners would mean that I could teach the students how to tune the instruments themselves which would turn into more quality instruction time and less "wait-for-the-teacher-to-tune-all-of-the-instruments" time.
It also means that students are able to know how to tune their instruments at home and will be more likely to play outside of school.
The shoulder sponges and cello end-pin stops are basic orchestra classroom materials that we currently lack. Many students come from families who cannot afford to purchase these items on their own, forcing the students to go without. These simple accessories seem minor but play a very important role in posture, technique, comfort, and ultimately in student success.
