My Students
My students are special because they come from a diverse background, seven languages are represented in my classroom. We function like a family in an environment that promotes positive social interactions around respect, responsibility, and safe behaviors.
We embody the Hawaiian values of aloha, malama, kuleana, and kokua.
We care for one another and promote kindness to everyone and focus on our responsibility to our community and island. My students work hard, they have a growth mindset that drives them to want to reach their goals and they encourage their peers to do the same. They are curious, excited about learning and love school, so much that they are sad when it is the weekend.
When I asked them why they love school, most of them said it is because of science. My students enjoy integrated lessons that are cross curricular including reading, writing, and STEM. I hope to enhance their love of learning and encourage them to continue to be interested in the world around us.
My Project
My students need access to quality picture file cards that will help them learn content and language. I am a trained project GLAD teacher, that uses strategies in my lessons that will help English language learners be able to understand and learn language, reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Printer ink and laminating sheets are expensive on a teacher's budget.
They run out quickly as more lessons are created. While these strategies are low cost, to help ensure the lessons can be used over the years, I need colored ink and laminating sheets to preserve the photos that I print for my lessons, so they can be reused in future lessons. I would like to continue implementing GLAD strategies in my classroom, so having more supplies to produce picture cards for my students will help me accomplish this.
