Project Classroom Make-Over: The Interior Design Students Take Over

My students are so incredible. Each one of them has a story and has had something really difficult they have been through, but they still put a smile on their face every day when they walk into class. They told me they consider my class a safe space for them to come in when they're having a bad day, or just to say hi.
They make my bad days better.
They continually let me know in small and big ways how much they appreciate me, and I do the same for them. I love each of them so much and want to continue to provide a warm, loving, safe environment for them to be in, even just for an hour a day.
My Project
This is my first year as a teacher and I have already noticed how unmotivated and down students can get so quickly, especially if every day is the same. When I mentioned a possible hands on experience, where they get to use their interior design knowledge learned in our classroom, they were ecstatic! I've never seen them so eager to dive right into something. They wanted to jump right into planning it and had so many ideas.
Their eyes (and voices) lit up at the thought of their individual ideas being put in motion.
We have a couple couches in the room so they wanted to aim our "theme" around those. In interior design we learn a lot about colors to make the room feel more open and how furniture placement can affect that as well.
Our room is in a trailer so the colors are pretty bland and it's all the same. That is why they chose the black wallpaper and black wood stain, but chose white, stick on, vinyl countertops and floating shelves. There is limited storage that is actually useable for them and projects they work on. They wanted to get organizational supplies such as the metal rack, wire baskets and push cart to make the room look more professional and put together as well as giving them the storage space they desired.
