My students are 7th and 8th graders who take pride in their rural community. They support and encourage each other, whether it be in academics, athletics, or through personal triumphs or hardships. They welcome new students into our school with friendship and accept them as part of our family.
I love that my students are proud of their roots and show so much compassion towards one another.
They embrace their talents and use their learning to become better versions of themselves. I want to inspire them to continue on the path to becoming our leaders of tomorrow. Real-world teaching provides opportunities to inspire their curiousity. When given those opportunities, it is amazing and awe-inspiring to see the way their minds work as they engage and question.
My Project
I am teaching a new project-based learning course this year. The objectives are to develop and implement reading, writing, speaking, listening, and researching skills.
Students will create a documentary biography project in which they research someone they admire or someone who has made an impact on their lives.
To do this, they will use primary and secondary sources. They will conduct interviews, write a report, and record a voice over using the headsets. They will collect photos and scan them using the all in one scanner unit and SD cards. The recorded report will play over the pictures to create a biographical documentary. We will copy the project onto a DVD so that students can share their projects outside of school.
