Our school is made up of about two thousand students. We have a mix of races and socioeconomic backgrounds. We also have a large military population, so many of our students come from a wide variety of educational experiences. Our school, teachers, and students work hard each day.
I teach about one hundred high school students each day.
The way the curriculum is set up, students don't receive a lot of self-guided instruction until they reach high school. I work hard to make sure that the students get as many hands-on experiences as possible. I want to help prepare them for college and life after school. I try to make my class fun and interesting for the students.
My Project
One of the biggest challenges in teaching project based learning activities to students is that materials for lessons are either expensive or so unique that they are hard to find.
Using this requested 3D printer pen and the rechargeable batteries needed to run a 3D printer to create materials will offer my students huge learning opportunities.
Teaching Robotics, I can combine challenges for my Robotics students with materials for their creative ideas when creating their own projects. The 3D pen will be used to print materials and designs for anything they could imagine creating. It will also allow them to model their ideas before creating them in our 3D printers.
Teaching students how to face new challenges as they come upon them is invaluable and being able to not just physically manipulate tools, but actually create them, will become a game changer for many students.
This will also allow students to begin understanding the needed tools and supplies for basic project creation. These skills can be applied to many professional fields as they move on to college or seek out professional service jobs after high school.
