Mrs. Walls from Irvine CA is requesting Supplies through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Project Based Learning is For Me!

My students need an iPad with cases, flip charts, contact paper, watercolors and paper, clipboards, a metal punch kit, and a multimedia cart.

  • $1,498 goal

This project expired on July 8, 2014.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My Students

My students need materials that allow them to use the arts and their creativity to learn and demonstrate what they know. They need to be able to extend their opportunities to learn beyond the walls, and the materials in this project will allow them do that.

My first graders are dynamic!

They are ready to learn about the world around them. They are constantly on the go and ready for the next adventure. Because of this, collaboration in the classroom in a must! We often work in small, flexible groups and travel throughout our room to accomplish tasks. In these groups, students share their ideas and build upon the ideas of their peers. They collaborate to create group graphic organizers, illustrated math word problems, and creative writing. My students are digital natives and adding technology to the classroom will allow them to extend their learning beyond the classroom by accessing the apps and sites we use at school at home. This project will meet the community standards. My students will work with fifth grade buddies to create recycling public service iMovies to show 2nd-4th grade classes. The students will take ownership of their learning as they plan their iMovie storyboards and determine what information is important to include.

My Project

Arts-integrated, inquiry-based experiences depend on students demonstrating an understanding of the big ideas and concepts in our curriculum. To do this, my students need an iPad with cases, flip charts, contact paper, watercolors and paper, clipboards, a metal punch kit, and a multimedia cart. Critical Thinking: Students will need to make judgments, provide evidence, and justify the choices they make in their iMovie storyboards. These ideas can be brainstormed on the flip charts and clipboards. The filming materials can be transported between the classroom and playground with the multimedia cart. Creativity: Students with many different learning styles will benefit from this project. The iMovie are just one-way students to generate new ideas and to present important information. They can also take and edit photos, play with mixing colors, and so much more. Digital literacy skills are not only important, but they allow students to connect with the curriculum in meaningful ways.

It is important for students to communicate what they learn to others in meaningful ways.

The iMovies will allow my students to share what they know with our school community. The metal punch kit will be used to integrate art into our social studies. The watercolors will be used across the curriculum; in art, writing, math, and science. I am hopeful that with the help of the Lily Sarah Grace grant and other generous donors I can bring these materials to my students.
