Project-Based Learning in the Science Classroom and Lab!
My students need an Elmo Document camera! Our Biology curriculum requires much reading, writing and scientific details to stay current and a document camera will help build more literacy and technological skills into our dynamic lessons.
My students are a rainbow of cultural and socioeconomic diversity in a rich urban environment. They are both artistically and academically motivated in their learning as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and so choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as College Board-level Advanced Placement classes. They also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects.
My Project
Receiving the new Elmo document camera will help support me to rewrite and update my lesson plans so that they are more dynamic, interactive, and creative to enhance learning while improving academic performance. With the ongoing changing Standards, I am faced with new teaching challenges to reach my students in the most effective ways possible. Your support can help me achieve my goal of becoming the best and most innovative teacher that I can be in order to guide my students towards their academic success in science.
An ELMO document camera can help me project a wider range of images and content onto the big screen bringing enhanced life to the often microscopic world of Living Environment / Biology.
A wide range of articles from scientific journals and practice problems from review books and worksheets can be pojected without having to worry about classroom copies. I can also project lab demonstrations safely for the entire class to see without the need for students to approach the front of the room and block others' view. I also look forward to creating classroom projects in which students develop their own presentations to teach a topic to the class and prepare themselves for advanced high school and college level work.
