Project Based Learning: Choice in Publishing My Work
Help me give my students options for displaying their knowledge. Blank books and tri-fold poster boards will allow students to publish their work and projects in a way that feels professional and worthy of their efforts.
I teach an extremely diverse group of students within my school. Our school is located on an island of Hawaii. We support students in the K./W. area. About 40% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and speak more than 14 different languages! The students that I service qualify for intensive math and reading support on both ends of the Response to Intervention spectrum.
I support students who struggle in math and reading as well as our gifted and talent students in grades 3-5 who need to have their needs met through stretch learning projects that deepen their understanding and promote collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
No matter what their need, all of our students benefit from project based work that integrates their own passions and interests. I work to make all work applicable to the world my students are living in.
My Project
In my classroom, student voice and choice are of utmost importance. I know that student engagement is high when students are given options for how they present their learning. I have been amazed at what they are able to create and present!
Giving students access to materials that allow creativity and critical thinking to flourish is key.
I am requesting some blank books so that my students can bring their writing to publication in a meaningful way. Their creativity and motivation when using these materials increases exponentially. I am also requesting tri-fold poster boards so that students have options in how they show what they know.
