Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class come from one of the most socioeconomically disadvantaged areas in the county, yet they come to school with the drive to learn that is unmatched. We teach a very diverse population, and our students dream of being leaders, doctors, attorneys, and even teachers. Many of them are not sure that they will even be able to attend college, but they are driven to learn and to be the best students they can be.
I grew up in a very similar community, and I am able to relate with my students' desires and educational needs.
We are a community of learners in our classroom. Learning is achieved by working together for the common goal. Our limited technology has helped my students to see outside our community and discover the world and its vastness. Their dreams are growing as my students are growing in class.
My Project
This basic building, and programming set will give my students the exposure they are missing in our regular adopted curriculum. By giving them the chance to build a robot and then program it, they will have first-hand experiences in engineering.
Hands-on STEM activities excite my students and engage their minds.
It is through doing that young students are inspired to explore and expand their thinking. With hands-on activities such as those found in this LEGO Mindstorms building kit, my students will be unstoppable. LEGO building sets inspire children to want to build and to become engineers before they even know what engineering really is.
