My school makes coming to work fun, but my students make coming to work exhilarating. My students sign up for my class, initially, because it sounds interesting. By the end of the semester, however, most of them leave with a new found passion towards computer science.
Regardless if they pursue programming beyond my classroom is not the main focus.
That's a perk. The focus is for my students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. My class can be difficult at times, but they're always up to the challenge.
When they do develop the passion for computer science, it is one of the best parts of my job. To create a classroom where they begin their journey is what I strive for. Currently, I have a student who knew nothing about programming until he took my class. Now, as an eighth grader, he has already developed an app and a website which he wants to grow into a business. I take a lot of pride knowing that he, and many more students like him, established that passion in my class first.
My Project
Help me give my students Robolink programmable drones. These drones are completely programmable using Python. These will allow my students to put the Python they learn in class to practical use in a real world application. The Mircobits also add innovation into my classroom by providing another opportunity for my students to explore programming more hands on. The Stikbots are used for my broadcasting class. My students learn stop motion animation and the Stikbots help with that. All of these projects help transfer my classroom into a more dynamic environment for all of my students for many years to come.
