Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school is located in the Frog Hollow neighborhood in Hartford, CT. This is not only the poorest neighborhood in the city, but one of the poorest in the country. Many of our students live in poverty and speak English as a second language.
Fifty two percent of our students are ELL serviced students.
This means that the majority of the school speaks another language at home. Additionally, we have approximately 17% of our population who receive special education services. Our students have many social, academic, and behavioral needs.
My Project
As a Resource teacher, I am the point person for the SRBI process (scientific research-based interventions). I supervise the part-time Tier 3 intervention teachers, consult with regular education teachers to create Tier 2 intervention plans, and work with small groups of students for intervention and enrichment.
The professional learning books will assist me and other teachers in creating success plans for students, as we will have the opportunity to use these resources for best practice ideas and strategies.
The books will have scientifically researched interventions that can be used by our staff.
The supplies requested will help ensure the SRBI process is well organized. Folders are essential as they will organize all of the paperwork, documents, and assessments needed to track student work and data. The standing desk will allow for a space to collaborate with another teacher side by side.
