My students are a group of young artists! They love art, science, social science lessons, hands-on activities, exploring, and creating unique artworks with words and ideas. There are 40 wonderful second graders in my dual language classes who spend half of their day in an English-speaking classroom and the other half in a Mandarin-speaking classroom. They love creative math lessons and hands-on STEM activities. They work very hard every day and study all subjects in both languages according to Common Core Standards, as well as Next Generation Science Standards.
My Project
Learning Financial Literacy is important at an early age. As a creative teacher, I wish to have new resources to help my students to master these essential skills.
My 2nd graders need multiple approaches to master a skill.Using only paper and pencil is not the most optimal method to teach young minds in this day and age.
In previous school years, I have integrated art, differentiated mathematical games, online research, and writing with the Financial Literacy unit, but I want to expand what I do to reach them. Students love learning the value of different coins, generating a saving and spending plan, and understanding the difference between needs and wants. In order to help my students understand these concepts, I need resources, "post-it whiteboard" and erasable pens in order to transfer my classroom to a whiteboard friendly zone. This resource will help me teach my students financial literacy on my desk, closet doors, and kidney table with whiteboard markers during one-on-one, small group instruction and group lessons. I will be able to write and erase eveywhere in the classroom to ensure students' learning. Additionally, this offers instant collaboration among students and the teacher.
