I need to streamline and simplify my workload as a teacher by focusing on what matters most. Help me create a more student-centered learning environment and maximize instructional time while developing work/life balance.
My 7th and 8th graders are voracious readers and expressive writers. Students use writing to interpret the world around them, share their personal experiences, and think critically about the information they encounter. They are perceptive of our society and are eager to impact our community in positive ways. My students look forward to being challenged academically and value learning about how to use language intentionally. When engaging in Socratic Seminars and class discussions, they dynamically bring pertinent questions to the table, invite others to share ideas, and use talk as a way to explore different perspectives.
My students are inquisitive individuals and view literacy as a tool for learning about experiences unlike their own and exploring various ways of viewing the world.
They bring a sense of joy to our school community by creating team building opportunities and using their leadership skills to create positive change. My goal is to help young people become skilled readers and writers. My students continue to impress me with their open-mindedness and love of learning.
My Project
Teacher burnout is all too common. This professional development course will give me strategies and resources to teach in sustainable ways. By learning how to eliminate, automate, and delegate tasks, I can improve my work/life balance. Creating a sustainable work schedule will align my life with my priorities and long-term goals. I will become more intentional with my lesson planning by learning how to plan holistically and leveraging the experience of other teachers.
I will be able to create a student-centered classroom by designing a learning space that facilitates productivity, establishes clear routines, and builds a healthy class culture.
I will also learn effective ways to provide student feedback with the goal of making assessment more meaningful. Students will feel empowered to take charge of learning opportunities and spend time on meaningful assignments.
