I work at a Title I school in a low socioeconomic area, and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. For some of our kids, these are the only two meals they have in a day.
Although my kids face many challenges, they are always eager to learn.
We are also three miles away from Ft. Bliss, so we have many military families in our school as well. Our school is located in a border city, and many of my students moved here from Mexico and are English language learners. I'm always looking for innovative ways to teach my kids and encourage them to love school and learning.
My Project
I am a first-year teacher that has a lot to learn. Much of our learning now is through the use of technology. I would like a MacBook computer to take online financial literacy professional development courses. There are many free online professional development websites available to teachers, like Hands-on Banking. Educators can view videos on how to teach budgeting, learn about needs vs. wants, the advantages of savings, credit, banks, and where money comes from.
Teachers are always willing to learn new ways to help their students!
I want to help my students learn about and practice responsible financial choices! A MacBook will help me view these financial literacy PD videos anytime or any place.
